Most people who are seeking a remedy for their hair loss agree that one of the best products on the market is Propecia. There are thousands of testimonials from satisfied customers who have used this product. Propecia is the only once-a-day pill that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of certain types of male pattern hair loss.

The advantage that Propecia has over other hair loss remedies is that it selectively targets the hormone that causes hair loss without causing undesirable changes in other hormones. By doing this, it normalizes hair growth and reverses hair loss.

Since it is designed to work over the long term, Propecia needs to be used regularly for at least three months before you see an improvement. For long-lasting results, you must continue taking it. Once you stop using it, you will most likely lose the hair you have gained within one year.

If you have any questions or concerns, make sure you discuss them with your doctor. You should never make a decision to take any kind of medications without having as much information as possible.

Tips on Stopping Hair Loss

One of the causes of hair loss is impaired blood circulation, especially in the scalp. Factors which can influence this include wearing head gear, tight headwear, scalp and body tension due to stress, smoking, and atherosclerosis (a condition where blood vessels are narrowed due to fatty acids). It is a well documented fact that when poor blood circulation occurs, then hair roots would not get enough of the vital nutrients to achieve healthy growth. So, in this context, stopping hair loss becomes a question of how to induce good blood circulation in the scalp.

There are several ways to increase blood circulation in the scalp to either stop or prevent hair loss, but two of the most common ones are as follows:

* Use herbal remedies, and
* Use hydrotherapy

The herbal remedies approach to stopping hair loss

There are several types of herbs which can get one's blood going, but one of the most commonly used ones is ginkgo biloba. The efficacy of ginkgo is well recorded, and in fact it is used to treat other health problems as well including improving mental function, age-related memory loss, sexual dysfunction and Alzheimer's disease.

How much ginkgo biloba should you be taking daily? Generally, one just follow the recommendation as stated in the product label, unless your doctor suggests an alternative dosage level.

The hydrotherapy approach to stopping hair loss

Hydrotherapy is nothing new. In fact, it is considered a traditional method which has been used for centuries by many cultures, including ancient Rome and China, for the treatment of many types of diseases and injuries. The basic principles behind hydrotherapy is that:

* Water is capable of stimulating the receptors of the nervous system easily as it can come into contact with all parts of the body;
* Water can conduct heat (raise body temperature) and dissipate heat (lower body temperature) very easily and efficiently;

To use hydrotherapy for scalp blood circulation purposes, it is advisable to do it in the shower. Depending on what facilities are available in your bathroom, the idea is to run very warm water over your head for between 15 to 20 seconds and immediately follow that up with cold water for the same period of time. Repeat 3 times, which means the final action involves cold water.

Alternating hot and cold water treatments are effective in providing a good massage for the scalp because the coldness of the water causes the blood vessels to contract, while the warmth of the water causes it (blood vessels) to dilate. In fact, such form of treatment can even alleviate respiratory congestion problems and enhance organ functioning.

Hence, taking ginkgo biloba in combination with hydrotherapy may stop or even prevent hair loss. This in-expensive method is certainly worth a try, but if you feel insecure about it, or are suffering from some ailments, it's best to get clearance from your doctor before proceeding with this stopping hair loss regime.

Besides hydrotherapy and herbal remedies, it's advisable to learn hair loss prevention tips in order to further minimise the chances of suffering hair loss. How to Treat Hair Loss Naturally

The most common type of hair loss encountered in men is called male-pattern baldness (also known as androgenic alopecia.) This condition leads to hair width progressively decreasing until the hair is completely gone and baldness develops.

According to recent research, the primary cause of baldness (androgenic alopecia) is the androgenic hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone.) Normally, this hormone performs a number of important roles in male development, but when the level of DHT in scalp is increased, it binds to the hair follicles preventing them from extracting the necessary nutrients from the blood flow. This makes the follicles shrink and the width of the hair shaft decrease. The width of the hair shaft determines the hair width so as the follicles shrink, the hair becomes thinner as the result. Eventually, the shaft becomes so narrow that no hair can grow at all.

Fortunately, the solution to the problem of hair loss is rather simple -- decreasing the level of dihydrotestosterone in the body usually prevents hair loss (or reverses it if it has already developed.) There are such prescription drugs as Finasteride (Propecia), which reduce the level of DHT and stop hair loss. However, these drugs can sometimes have very nasty side effects (e.g. there are known cases of gynecomastia (growth of breasts in males) and erectile dysfunction among the users of finasteride.) In addition, their effectivity is not universally accepted.

A better solution to the problem of baldness is to use natural treatments. They work in exactly the same way as synthetic prescription drugs, by blocking DHT and preventing it from binding to hair follicles. However, since they contain only natural ingredients, they do not have any side-effects commonly associated with synthetic chemicals. This makes natural hair loss treatments an attractive alternative to prescription drugs.

Saw Palmetto is a natural ingredient, which reduces the level of DHT, thus stopping and reversing hair loss.
